Following their recent success at the Under 16 Australian Junior Championships in Darwin, Canberra juniors Alex Toohey and Bowyn Beatty have been named in the U16 Asia Cup Squad.

The 17 person squad will take part in a selection camp to be held at the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence from September 4-6th. Basketball ACT’s Head of High Performance & Coach Development, Phil Brown, says that the boys selection is testament to the hard work they have put in over the past year.

“BACT is extremely proud of Alex and Bo on their selection to the Australian U16 Men’s Squad,” said Brown. “This achievement comes on the back of a successful Under 16 Australian Junior Championship in Darwin last month where the ACT U16 boys, that included both Bo and Alex, placed 4th which has only been bettered in recent years by the 2011 U16 ACT Men who achieved a Silver Medal at the same AJC.”

Toohey (Marist College Basketball) and Beatty (Wests Basketball) have quickly risen through the ranks of Basketball ACT’s junior competition with their height and athleticism catching the eye of scouts from all over Australia.

“Alex and Bo are current members of the ACT National Performance Program and have made significant progress in their individual development over the past 12 months,” said Brown. “The opportunity to attend a green & gold camp and be coached by National coaches will further enhance their development.”

Congratulations to Alex and Bowyn and all the best for the camp!
