It’s time to “Unleash the Canberra Beast in the EAST…!!!”

After a strong 2021 season, the Gunners will be keen to hit the court running in 2022.

Stepping up from the Waratah League into the Coles Express NBL1 East competition, the Gunners will be looking to make a strong first impression against their rivals.

With the likes of Glenn Morison, Pietro Badalassi and Akech Aliir, the Gunners have plenty of home-grown talent, and the return of college stars James Toohey and Dhal Fieg will bolster the squad tremendously.

The competition kicks off on 2-3 April, with an away game against perennial contenders Norths Bears on Sunday 3rd April, in what will be a tough first round matchup, with 2017 Finals MVP Nic Blair and Kazakhstan star Anatoly Bose forming a deadly wing partnership, the Gunners will have to be ready to compete hard right from the get-go.

Other key games to put in your diary include:

Round 6 vs Albury-Wodonga Bandits – The Bandits are an unknown team coming into this season, having switched over from the NBL1 South to come play in the East comp. A middle of the table side in the NBL1 South, the team from Albury-Wodonga will be striving to place among the best teams in the NBL1 East. The Gunners will have to adapt to a team they’ve never faced before, which could prove challenging.

Round 8 vs Manly Warringah Sea Eagles – One of the best teams for quite a few seasons now, the Sea Eagles are the back-to-back champions of the Waratah League and will be looking to stamp their authority over the rest of the competition once again. Being able to beat Manly is the first step to proving Canberra are in the fight for the championship this season.

There’s plenty of excitement in the Canberra Gunners camp and expectations are high for this season, as the team builds towards what will be an excellent first season of the Coles Express NBL1 East.
