Basketball ACT (BACT) held their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday 27 February 2024, at Canberra Southern Cross Club, Phillip.

With strong representation from across BACT’s community and school member clubs, the AGM proceeded to accept reports and presentations from the outgoing President, Allan Yates, Basketball ACT Chief Executive Officer (CEO) including the Annual Report and Audited Financial Statement, the Nominations Committee and the Honours and Awards Committee.

A key element of the AGM was the election process to fill the President’s role, and two Director roles.  Michelle Hocking was returned as a Board member, and elected to the role of President in an unanimous decision, to become only the second female President of the BACT Board, and the first one in 30 years, following in the footsteps of Life Member, Ros Roberts.  The appointment also means that it is the first time in our history that a female President and female CEO will be leading our sport into the future.

In other board appointments, Alexandra Smith and Anthony Jennings were voted in as Directors, providing knowledge and experience from across legal and contractual advisory roles, and the community sport, financial and project management arena. Both Alexandra and Anthony will complement the skillset of incumbent Directors.

Basketball ACT would also like to congratulate the following for receiving Basketball ACT Life Membership in 2023.
