Two Canberra basketballers have been invited to the National Performance Camp to be held in January next year.

Alex Toohey, from the Marist Club, and Bowyn Beatty, from Wests, were invited to be a part of the 20-player squad following the strong performance of the ACT Under 16 team at the Australian Championships earlier this year.

The camp – which targets prospective Boomers and Opals players – will be held at the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence in Canberra from 22 to 25 January next year.

The squad receives a week of intensive training under national junior coaches and the Centre of Excellence’s head coaches.

Both Bowyn and Alex, who are in Basketball ACT’s National Performance Program, led the team to the Under 16 Championship semi-finals in Darwin earlier this year.

BACT Head of High Performance, Phil Brown, said the players’ selection reflected the side’s great results.

“The invitation for Alex and Bo to attend the NPC is another beneficial development opportunity for these young men and follows their recent participation in an NBA Global Academy Camp and the Australian U16 Men’s Selection camp back in September,” Brown said.

“Bo and Alex are NPP athletes supported by Basketball ACT and the ACT Academy of Sport and it is a great feather in their cap and recognition of the BACT program.

“Their selection continues the recognition of Canberra basketballers in Australian squads and playing College ball in the United States.”

Bowyn and Alex are currently participating in the ACT U18 Men’s 2020 representative trials.
