The last weekend of school holidays proved to be a BIG one for the 3×3 form of the game, with the first ever 3×3 Referee Course delivered on Friday 27 January, backed up by another bumper 3×3 Street Hustle on Saturday 28 January, at Belconnen Basketball Stadium.

The 3×3 Referee Course, devised and delivered by Basketball ACT Officials staff, is designed to provide referees for competition as well as providing an additional pathway for our referees. The Course was a blended learning format with a combination of classroom and on court experiences.

The Course saw 23 referees in attendance, and additionally saw three 3×3 referee educators accredited within the ACT to deliver further courses as the year progresses.

Participants of the course didn’t have to wait for long to put what they learnt into action, as many officiated the following day in a Basketball ACT 3×3 Street Hustle..

The 3×3 Street Hustle, held on Saturday, drew numerous teams across several age groups, kick off 2023, with many young players getting their first opportunity to play some competitive games on-court.

Results of the 3×3 Street Hustle Finals were:

  • Swish Kebabs 13 def Green Beans 11 (U14 Boys);
  • Ball Handlers 6 def Flames 3 (U16 Boys);
  • Aqua Man 14 def Trio of Trouble 10 (Open).
