Intellectual Disability

Basketball ACT is a proud supporter and ambassador for social inclusion through basketball.

Basketball ACT provides competition for intellectually disabled males and females who have the ability and desire to play in a mainstream competition conducted by Basketball ACT.

The men play in the Basketball ACT mainstream men’s competition at Belconnen Stadium on Monday nights and the women train at Belconnen Stadium on Tuesday nights from 6-7:30pm.

From these competitions the ACT Men’s and Women’s representative teams are chosen each year to compete in the Australian Basketball Championships for Players with an Intellectual Disability (Ivor Burge Championships). These championships are in conjunction with the Australian Under 20 Championships.

The teams have enjoyed success in recent years with the Women’s team receiving Silver in 2017 and Bronze in 2018.
