Waratah League

Senior Representative Programs

The NSW Waratah League is one of New South Wales’ premier basketball competitions, featuring men’s and women’s divisions in senior and junior age groups and serving as a key development platform for athletes, coaches, and officials across the state. Managed by Basketball NSW, the league brings together associations from metropolitan and regional areas.

For players in the ACT and surrounding region, the Waratah League has historically offered an important step in the performance pathway, giving emerging and established athletes access to strong competition before the introduction of NBL1 East. Canberra-based teams, such as the Canberra Gunners and Canberra Nationals, previously competed in the Waratah League for many years, achieving consistent success and contributing to the league’s reputation for high-quality basketball.

In 2025 Canberra put in our first Youth League team, furthering that pathway from U18s, to U20s then to the NBL1.

Open trials to join the Canberra Gunners & Nationals are currently complete. If you wish to be considered for either team, please contact – Performance Pathways & Coaching Manager: Leonard King
