Expression of Interest – Competitions Working Group Members

Basketball ACT is calling for expressions of interest from passionate and experienced members of the basketball community to join the Basketball ACT Competitions Working Group.

This working group plays a vital role in supporting the Basketball ACT Competitions Department in the delivery of high-quality, fair, and sustainable competitions across the ACT and surrounding region. Members will contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of the Basketball ACT Strategic Plan and Competition Framework, helping shape the future of basketball in our community.

About the Competitions Working Group

The primary purpose of the Competitions Working Group is to provide advice and recommendations on the interpretation and application of Basketball ACT Competition By-Laws, ensuring they are applied consistently and fairly. The group also provides strategic input into competition structures, frameworks, and policies to support the continued growth of basketball in the ACT.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and recommending updates to competition rules and by-laws
  • Providing advice on competition frameworks, structures, and formats
  • Offering feedback on competition operational policies
  • Considering relevant national policies when making recommendations
  • Reviewing proposals related to Basketball ACT competitions and programs
  • Managing appeals as outlined in the Competition Rules and By-Laws (excluding disciplinary and infringement matters)

Who Should Apply?

Basketball ACT is seeking up to one (1) member with relevant experience and expertise, and a strong understanding of Basketball ACT competition structures and formats. Ideal candidates will have contemporary knowledge of issues impacting basketball competitions and the broader basketball community, along with the ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively.

The working group values diversity and welcomes nominations from across all areas of the basketball community, including administrators, coaches, officials, and other experienced stakeholders.

Appointment Details

  • Members are appointed for a two-year term
  • Positions are filled through a bi-annual Expression of Interest process
  • Meetings are held via video conference, with a recommended minimum of three meetings per year
  • A minimum of three non-Basketball ACT staff members must be present for meetings to proceed
  • Members must declare any actual or perceived conflicts of interest and adhere to confidentiality requirements

A representative from Basketball ACT Operations will attend each meeting, and the working group will be chaired by a member nominated by Basketball ACT.
