The UC Capitals are all about connecting our elite women’s team with the next generation of Canberra basketballers, and showing them that the WNBL pathway is real and within reach.

With this in mind, the Caps have developed their Future Caps Program for aspiring athletes to step inside the world of the UC Capitals and experience what it takes to play at the elite level.

The program is a two-day high-performance intensive for elite level girls aged 12–16 who aspire to reach the WNBL.

Led by UC Capitals Assistant Coach and NZ Tall Ferns Head Coach, Nat Hurst, and supported by Paul Goriss, UC Capitals Head Coach and Australian Opals Associate Head Coach, participants will get exclusive access to two world-class coaches to learn from.

“I want to see more players come through the Canberra Basketball pipeline, and to be a part of that feels really special,” Hurst said.

Hurst will also return to the NBL1 as the Canberra Nationals Head Coach, with a focus of solidifying the pathway between Basktball ACT Programs and the UC Capitals.

“To see Canberra kids coming through the NBL1 program, it’s a program that I came through, it’s the way that I went from step to step to make the Caps.

“To see that growth, I want to help continue that. We’ve got two locals at the Caps this season, both great people, but both great basketballers and getting rewarded for all the hard work that they’ve done,” she said.

The program a rare opportunity to train, prepare, and perform just like the Capitals do. For athletes looking to aspire to play at an NBL1 level, it also provides an opportunity to work with the current head coach and buIld the foundation for their development.
