Club News: Belconnen Ramblers – 2016 Juniors Night

Ramblers Juniors Come in Droves to Support their Premier Teams

By Karen Lindsay (Belconnen Ramblers)

More than 70 Ramblers junior players and their parents packed Belconnen Stadium on Wednesday night (20 July 2016) to support the Club’s Premier Men and Women teams in a ‘double header’.

Both teams treated the juniors to a fast-paced game, and claimed the win.  The men put on a spectacular show, with juniors marvelling at the pin point passing by Jake Jobling for two alley-oop dunks from Obie Moneke and the long range three point shots by Tom Commins and Jake Jobling.  The women’s team kept supporters on the edge of their seat, taking a one-point lead in the dying minute of the game.

Club President, Jon Pratt, was pleased with the turn-out, saying “This was our first Ramblers Juniors Night and to get so many families along was fantastic.  It is part of the Club’s plans to strengthen links between the juniors and seniors, and to continue to build the family environment of the Club.”

With many of the players in the Ramblers Premier teams in the Gunners, Gunners Academy and Capitals Academy, the evening was also an opportunity to showcase Basketball ACT’s pathway for junior players.  According to Jon Pratt, “Ramblers has many talented junior players and we want them to see that representing the ACT does not end at u18s or u20s.  There is a strong pathway for players from across the ACT to continue to play basketball at the elite level, and to represent their Club, well into their 20s.”

The Club plans to make the Ramblers Junior Night an annual event.
