Basketball ACT has announced the appointment of David Simpson as its new Chief Executive Officer, commencing Monday 28 October.

Mr Simpson, who comes from a senior position with Sport Australia, has spent the past 18 years working in the sporting industry across ACT, national and international sporting organisations in event management, competition management, sport development, policy development, governance and financial management.

BACT Chair, Allan Yates, today welcomed Mr Simpson’s appointment and said he would bring a strong mix of skills, expertise, understanding and good governance to the role.
Apart from his experience with Sport Australia, David has worked in England, leading the restructure and modernising of inter and intra school sporting competitions across 26 sports and over 320 schools across the county.

Before moving to England, David was Executive Officer of Futsal ACT and General Manager of Women’s Soccer Canberra.

“The Board has moved swiftly to engage David, who has a long association with sports management in Canberra, around Australia and overseas and we are confident he will bring some stability to this position,” Mr Yates said.

“In his roles at Sport Australia, David has significant stakeholder relationship experience which we believe will build closer relationships with BACT basketball clubs, the community, stakeholders, the ACT Government and other Canberra sporting organisations.

“Basketball is one Canberra’s premier sports – with record numbers playing the game, the Canberra Capitals’ great success on and off the court and the NBL’s resurgence – and we believe David will build on BACT’s foundation.”

Mr Simpson takes over from Matthew Dunstan, who has returned to Melbourne for family reasons.
