ACT U18 Women’s State Team Announced

The Under-18 Women’s state squad is selected and ready to take the court in Geelong this April at the 2018 National Championships!

Considered the blue ribbon event of Australian junior basketball, U18 Nationals provides a stage for players who have taken the court together all the way through juniors to excel in front of Australian selectors and US college scouts.

“This is the first time I have coached a Basketball ACT state team and I am really excited about the group that Daniel and I have selected,” says Head Coach Jenny Lonergan. “Our focus is to be a disruptive team defensively and play with pace and unselfishness at the offensive end.”

Lonergan says the group’s initial goal is to qualify for the quarter finals, then reassess from there.

“The girls are committed to competing with the best teams in the country,” she adds.

“The timing of the invitational tournament that Basketball ACT is hosting over the Easter long weekend this year will be an opportunity to gauge how we are progressing and allow us enough time to make some adjustments prior to departing for the championships in mid April,” says Lonergan. “We know the group we have selected will represent the ACT with pride at the championships in Geelong.”

The squad of 12 is made up of:

Sophie Anderson (Norths)
Kassidy Fox (Rats)
Madeline Hunt (Rats)
Natasha Lyall (Rats)
Clare Newton (Wests)
Zoe Ramshaw (Wests)
Catherine Smith (WCWD)
Pyper Thornberry (Norths)
