Season’s Greetings from Basketball ACT

Season’s Greetings from Basketball ACT

With the holiday season in full swing and 2019 coming to an end, Basketball ACT would like to wish all its extended basketball family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

From increased growth of junior playing numbers, through to a championship for our next generation of Canberra Gunners, 2019 has brought many amazing highlights across the organisation.

In 2019:

  • Our elite men’s and women’s teams returned to the Waratah League, with the Canberra Nationals reaching the Championship Women’s Grand Final on the Central Coast;
  • The Canberra Gunners Academy claimed the Waratah League – Division 1 men’s championship;
  • Keeley Froling was named Waratah League Championship women’s MVP and into the All-Star 5;
  • Dhal Feig and Will Mayfield were named in the Division 1 Men’s All-Star 5.

Our premier division continues to highlight the depth of talent in our region, with another successful year on-court, while our senior social competitions go from strength to strength.

Junior playing numbers at club and school levels showed increased growth, with development pathways in place for young players to achieve their dreams.  Meanwhile we have worked tirelessly to support our commitment to social inclusion with increased opportunities to play the game we love.

The new year will see plenty of exciting events and possibilities, both on and off court.  The annual Canberra Classic will take place in January 2020, the Waratah League will commence in March and with the 2020 Olympics to be held in Japan, we are looking to expand and strengthen our commitment to 3×3 basketball with more tournaments and opportunities.

Basketball ACT would like to thank all our clubs, sponsors, players, coaches, managers, referees, parents, volunteers and fans of our sport for making 2019 another successful year, and we look forward to seeing you court-side in 2020.  We wish you a safe and happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year….
